Boo!

Is Halloween one of your favorite holidays?

I’m a huge fan of it, myself. Candy, cool Halloween costumes, gathering with friends for Halloween parties… I love it all, except when people scare others.

A few years ago, I purchased this mask of a cool ghoul as part of my Halloween costume. But the mask wasn’t as frightening as it was for me to sit on the porch of my friend’s house handing out candy. Why was that scary?

Women came by and handed me their babies to take a picture. My costume didn’t scare the infants and toddlers, who were too young to know any better, but I couldn’t see a thing! I had a real fear I would drop someone’s baby.

The Emotional Effects of Fright

The emotion we feel when our friends jump out from behind the bushes at us on Halloween yelling, “Boo!” is characterized as “fright.” It’s the same chills we get when we watch a scary movie and view the scene where the evil killer jumps out at the girl entering the basement.

Fright is distinguished from fear by its sudden, unexpected nature. Fright shocks the system, alarms the spirit, and causes your chi or life energy to scatter. Since the heart houses the spirit, fright, particularly in its initial stage, primarily injures the heart.

That’s why the “good” scares we give our friends on Halloween could actually cause a heart attack in someone with a weak heart. It’s why pregnant women and people with heart conditions are warned not to ride roller coasters.

Some people seek out frights to stimulate the rush of adrenaline, but the long-term effects are not healthy.

The Dangers of Fear

If fright persists and becomes chronic fear, it moves to the kidneys and injures these important organs, as well. Persistent fear carries with it a host of additional medical problems.

The kidneys control the growth and development of bones and nourish the marrow, which is the body’s source of red and white blood cells. According to The Complete Book of Chinese Health & Healing, by Daniel Reid, “Weak kidney energy is… a prime cause of anemia and immune deficiency… The Chinese view the spinal cord and the brains as forms of marrow, and therefore poor memory, inability to think clearly and backache are all regarded as indicators of impaired kidney function and deficient kidney energy.”

Treats, Not Tricks this Halloween

Before you seek to give your friends a fright this Halloween, think about the damage it could cause – especially if you’re not the first person that evening to scare them.

Reid also explains that excess fear damages a person’s kidney energy and causes that energy to descend, sometimes causing loss of bladder control. Chronic fear and paranoia can cause renal failure and permanent kidney damage.

These excessive emotional energies upset the delicate balance of yin and yang within the organ-energy systems.

This Halloween, take measures to counteract the adverse environmental energies so prevalent during the holiday. Emphasize the treats, rather than the tricks, to minimize injurious emotions to others. And cultivate your pure energy to maintain a strong defense against whatever may jump out at you on Halloween night.

Halloween is a fun holiday that lots of people start planning weeks and months in advance to make their Halloween party memorable. So, how to hold a perfect Halloween party this season? Here are some party-planning tips for a terrifying good time.

1. Send out invitations in advance
Send out your party invitations one or two weeks before the party. You’d better clearly state instructions about themes, costumes, and when the party begins and ends to avoid confusion

2. Get help in decorating
Allow some guests to arrive early and help with the Halloween decorations. This will ease your workload and add some creative minds.

3. Supply food and candy
Prepare plenty of goodies. Try dressing up your food to look like gross things such as eyeballs, body parts, etc. Make the punch look like blood.

4. Prepare some Halloween party games
Certain games such as pumpkin bowling, witch hunt game, trick or treat game, and candy corn catch can help make a Halloween party interesting and funny. Here you can find more games that are suitable for a Halloween party.

5. Have adult supervision
Adult supervision is necessary for safety reasons as well as preventing any property damage. Adults can help with the party, while the guests have fun.

6. Have a camera handy
Take pictures and arrange them in a photo album to show your guests after the party. It’s hilarious to watch how the costumes evolve over the years. Also, you can shot some video clips for the excellent moment of your party to send to the guests.

If you happen to have PowerPoint installed on your computer, you can use it easily to make a video or DVD for the photos and videos you take together. And then send the video or DVD you made with PowerPoint to guests who attended the Halloween party as a gift.

Here is how PowerPoint will help you create an excellent video/DVD for your Halloween party:
1. All the photos and video clips taken at the Halloween party can be displayed in PowerPoint in sequence
2. PowerPoint allows you to insert comments to the photos and videos inserted.
3. You can make your Halloween party show more pleasant with a suitable background music
4. More than 50 animations for you to make your Halloween party show more vivid
5. You can use your imagination to make the Halloween party show funny with other objects inserted, such as clipart, and JIF humor.

After you finish creating the Halloween PowerPoint show, the next step is to convert the Halloween PowerPoint slideshow to video or burn the presentation onto DVD disc.

Make the most of October and have a great time. Start some Halloween traditions with friends and family.

Halloween is a very entertaining time filled with lots of fun. But don’t forget that the safety of your children has to come first, by all means necessary.

1. If you don’t plan on escorting your children or having adult supervision with them while they are out trick or treating then it is very critical that you know and plan a safe route for your children to take.

2. If your children will be attending any Halloween activities, such as friends or family Halloween parties, school, mall or any other public Halloween functions. It’s important that you get all the necessary details about the function in advance and make sure that there will be some type of adult supervision at the function at all times.

3. Be certain that your kid’s Halloween costumes are safe enough for them to wear. Bear in mind that your children will probably be exposed to candles, so it’s better to play it safe by opting for fire proof costumes than to be sorry later.

4. Be certain your children have a scrumptious filling Halloween dinner before going out trick or treating. That way your kids will less likely be tempted to eat up the candy that they collect before you get a chance to inspect it and make sure it’s alright for them.

5. If you come to a decision that you or any other mature person are not escorting your children trick or treating make sure that your children are old enough and responsible enough to go out by themselves. Also make sure that they only go out during daylight hours.

6. If you’re not accompanying your children when they go trick or treating make sure that your children are equipped with all the necessary emergency telephone numbers. If they have cell phones have those telephone numbers saved on speed dial for easy access. If they don’t have cell phones make sure that they carry enough change to enable them to make emergency telephone calls from a pay phone.

7. Always make sure that you kid’s Halloween costumes are bright enough, reflective enough, and easy for any one to spot them in the dark, even from a distance.

8. If your kids are going to wear any type of masks with their costumes, make sure that they’re the right size and that they fit properly in order to avoid scrapes and scratches to their faces. Also make sure that their eyes, nose and mouth holes are large enough for your children to see clearly, breathe properly, and be heard if there is any need for your children to call out for help.

Kids are not the only ones who get caught up in all the fun and excitement of Halloween, grown ups certainly also get caught up in the excitement themselves too, sometimes even a little too much more than the kids! As a matter of fact, adult Halloween parties are quite often much wilder than the kid’s parties because of alcohol use. However, grown ups can still have a fun, happy, safe and trouble free Halloween by simply following a few safety tips.

1. If you have any plans of attending a party and plan on drinking any alcoholic beverages, drink smart, know your limit, save yourself the embarrassment and don’t go overboard with the alcohol. Make sure you have a designated drive that is completely sober through out the entire party.

2. If you plan on hosting a Halloween party, keep a close eye on every one of your guests, take the keys away from any guest that is intoxicated. Don’t under any circumstance allow any of your guests to drive while intoxicated.

3. When planning your party and deciding on a menu, put into consideration any guests attending your party that has food allergies that might cause a problem and have you dialing 911. Common food allergies to peanuts, dairy products, eggs, and shell fish can be life threatening and should be taken very seriously.

4. Make sure that your house is well organized, safe and ready for trick-or-treaters by clearing your porches, lawns, sidewalks and placing all jack-o-lanterns as far away as possible from doorways, landings, curtains and any other flammable objects

5. Don’t leave any lighted pumpkins unattended if there will be any children around. All it takes is one little mistake to start a fire, and the whole occasion could turn tragic within the blink of an eye.

6. Avoid giving the younger trick or treaters choking hazards such as gum, small hard candies, or small toys, and if giving out any treats with peanuts in them be sure to let the kids know so that you can prevent any potential allergic reactions.

7. Make sure to inspect all your children’s treats for safety before allowing them to eat any of the goodies.

8. If you have any older children that’ll be going to any Halloween functions be sure to get all the necessary details about where the party will be held, how many people will be attending, who will be attending the party, what time the party will be ending and whether or not there’ll be any adult supervision. Also be sure to set a curfew for them.

9. Take the necessary precautions to ensure the safety of pedestrian trick-or-treaters by driving slowly, and exiting driveways and alleyways very carefully. Continually be on the look out for kids in the street and on the side walks.

There are lots of things to keep in mind when you buy Halloween costumes for dogs, such as safety, your budget, and whether or not your dog will actually tolerate being in the costume for any period of time.

It will do you no good to purchase what you deem as the most wonderful Halloween costume for your dog, only to find out that he or she hates it and tries to pull, tug, and chew at it to be free from it the entire time it is on. It is important to keep these things in mind while shopping, rather than just picking up the most adorable dog costume you see and walking out the door with it.

As always, as a dog owner, one of your top priorities should always be the safety and well-being of your pet. That being said, you need to make sure any Halloween costume you purchase is actually safe for your dog to wear. The first thing you need to do, before you start shopping, is to get an accurate measurement of your dogs size, including his neck size, chest width, length, and height. You will need this information to ensure that the costume you purchase for your dog will fit properly.

If you plan to walk around your neighborhood with your dog, it is a good idea to choose a costume that is light in color and easily seen in the dark. This is something you always think about when it comes to keeping your kids safe at Halloween, and you should use this same rule for your dog’s costume as well.

You want to make certain that the costume you purchase doesn’t have anything attached that could be chewed off and swallowed by your dog, as this could cause lots of problems with your dogs digestive system, possibly requiring a vet’s attention. This is especially a problem for puppies, who like to chew anything they can get their mouths on, and for dogs that are not accustomed to wearing clothing. In those cases, the simplest costume may be your safest bet.

Don’t wait until Halloween night to put the costume on your dog. As soon as you bring it home, put it on your dog to see if it fits, to check for any possible safety hazards, and to see how your dog tolerates wearing the costume. If you have to return it for any reason, it is better to know early-on, so you will have better odds of finding another costume that you like that will better suit your dog.

By allowing your dog to wear the costume for brief periods before the big night, he or she can get used to it, which will help your dog to be more comfortable in the costume on the big night!

For many people feeling the economic pinch, a hand-made Halloween costume may be more in tune with their budget, and that is great, as long as the safety factor is kept in mind. Most pet supply stores and many online vendors sell dog Halloween costumes, and for those who can afford them, that is great, but it just doesn’t make sense to put yourself into a financial bind just to purchase a Halloween costume for your dog!

So, while that very cute costume you found at your local Halloween costume shop may seem like it is calling your name, if it doesn’t fit into your budget, walk on by and look for other alternatives. You will be much happier in the end!

When it comes time to buy Halloween costumes for dogs, you will be better served to keep these key points in mind, both for your own happiness, and your dog’s as well!

Halloween – Fake Blood Tips from the Hollywood Pros

If there’s anything Hollywood special effects artists know well, it’s how to use stage blood to form a gory look. Your Halloween makeup and decorating efforts will be improved by following some of their tried-and-true techniques.

First, you’ve got to buy or make some fake blood, naturally. We trust you don’t have plans to use the genuine thing!

There are dozens of recipes for making your own cheap version of fake blood. One ultra-simple recipe uses a tablespoon of water added to 3 tablespoons of corn syrup. Then add red food colourising for bright, fresh-looking blood. For an aged or deep cut look, add a bit of blue.

For applications calling for more volume or a wider area, a spray bottle works very well.

Soy sauce works very well for simulating blood spatter from a shotgun wound. Pour some into flexible plastic tubing and seal at one end. Use a syringe at the other end concealed inside a shirt to quickly force the sauce outward.

Another method involves using a thing by the name of a ’squib’. These are small packets containing the stage blood mix that release their contents under pressure, customarily from a fake body blow or knife stab. The packets are sewn or taped within pockets or glued onto the skin, then covered with latex. A pointy, short pressure squeezes the packet, which bursts and splatters ‘blood’ around.

For a darker, more gel-like mixture chocolate syrup works very well. Add food colorising to get just the right color. It can be poured slowly down a fake hand to simulate an oozing wound. Yuck.

Regularly stage blood is used to simulate wounds in which the liquid oozes from the mouth, nose or ears. In these applications, take care to buy or make a mixture that is safe for internal use.

Ah, the sacrifices actors make…

All the mixtures above will wash out of clothing, apart from those that use chocolate. If you mix that in, be ready to discard anything it comes in touch with, unless you do not care what the garment looks like later. Also, make sure that anyone near one of your effects doesn’t mind getting stained.

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays, and times have certainly changed since my own kids donned pumpkins and Power Ranger costumes. Though parents need to be more careful today than previous generations, those precautions don’t need to ruin the holiday.

Though many families, blocks, and communities host parties, other families still enjoy trick-or-treating the old fashioned way. Just use common sense. Here are some recommendations by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).

Costumes: Swords, knives, and similar costume accessories should be short, soft, and flexible. Fasten reflective tape to costumes and bags to help drivers see you and your children. Always test make-up in a small area first. Remove it before bedtime to prevent skin and eye irritation.

Lower your risk for serious eye injury by not wearing decorative contact lenses. Wear well-fitting masks, costumes, and shoes to avoid blocked vision, trips, and falls.

Venturing out: Avoid trick-or-treating alone. Walk in groups and be sure children are always with a trusted adult. Hold a flashlight whiule trick-or-treating to help you see and others see you. Look both ways before crossing the street. Use established crosswalks wherever possible.

Only walk on siedwalks or on the frar edge of the road facing traffic to stay safe. Enter homes only if you’re with a trusted adult. Otherwise, stay outside. Never walk near lit candles or luminaries. Be sure to wear flame-resistant costumes.

Check your treats – Examine all treats for choking hazards and tampering before eating them. Limit the amount of treats you eat. Eat only factory-wrapped treats. Avoid eating homemade treats unless you know the cook well.

I wish you a safe and enjoyable Halloween!
